Chicago, Ill. - The Stony Brook football team earned a preseason ranking of No. 16 by the College Sporting News, the publication recently announced. The Seawolves, coming off a banner 2011 season, will open 2012 at home against Central Connecticut on Saturday, September 1.

The Seawolves, who went 9-4 last season and claimed the Big South Championship join Liberty (No. 23) as the conference's representatives on the poll.

Sam Houston State, which Stony Brook nearly upset in the second round, is ranked second.

The College Sporting News also announced junior linebacker Jawara Dudley (Roosevelt, N.Y.) to its preseason All-America team.
