Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook football team wrapped up a month's worth of practice with its annual Spring Game, held at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. In the offense (white) vs. defense (black) scrimmage, the offense came out on top with a 33-30 comeback victory after trailing at halftime 23-14.

The modified scoring system for the game had the offense earn a point for each first down while the defense earned three points for each punt forced, four points for a fourth down stop and two points for every turnover.

Despite the loss, the defense was outstanding with numerous strong individual performances. Christian Ricard intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recorded seven tackles. Naim Cheeseboro led all Seawolves with nine tackles, and Zedrick Gardner made nine tackles and broke up one pass. Victor Ochi had two of the defense's three sacks.

On offense, Marcus Coker had six carries for 64 yards, including the day's longest gain - a 43-yard run down the sideline during the game's third drive of the day. James Kenner, who rushed the ball 13 times for 28 yards, scored the game's only touchdown, and it came on a two-yard carry during the first drive of the second half.

The offense had two field goals. Graham Ball hit a 42-yard field goal at the end of the first half, and Ben Solis connected on a 29-yard attempt near the end of the day.

Stony Brook used five different quarterbacks on the day. Lyle Negron was the starter and was 12-for-18 with a game-high 94 yards passing. Pat D'Amato was 6-for-11 for 73 yards, Carlos Hernandez was 4-for-5 for 50 yards, Conor Bednarski was 3-for-8 for six yards and Ryan Andersen was 5-for-6 for 48 yards.

Under eighth-year head coach Chuck Priore, the Seawolves are four-time reigning conference champions, but they are now embarking into a new era as they join CAA Football. Stony Brook, which has captured a win in each of the last two NCAA Div. I Football Championships, will have numerous starters back from last season's championship-winning squad, including the entire offensive line.
