Stony Brook to join CAA Football in 2013

A new era of Stony Brook Football in the premier FCS conference to begin in 2013.

Jon Woods will begin his ninth season at Stony Brook in 2013. Working with numerous all-conference selections, Woods' offensive linemen consistently have paved the way for one of the best rushing attacks in FCS.

Led by All-American Michael Bamiro, the offensive line helped Miguel Maysonet and Marcus Coker rush for nearly 3,000 yards, and an offense that ranked among the best in program history.

In 2012, his offensive line was responsible for Stony Brook's best offensive season in school history. The O-Line blocked for two 1,000-yard rushers for a second straight season and a rushing attack that ranked fourth in FCS.

After coaching the tight ends for three years, Woods moved to the offensive line in 2009 and helped Paul Fenaroli earn All-Big South first-team honors two years in a row. The O-Line helped block for two 1,000-yard rushers for the second time in four years. In 2009, the offensive line blocked for a rushing attack that finished 30th in the nation and allowed just over a sack per game to rank in the top 25.

During his time working with the tight ends, the group became an integral part of the Stony Brook offense, with making numerous key receptions, including the game-winning TD last season against Charleston Southern. In his first season on the staff he coached the outside linebackers in 2005.

Woods arrived at Stony Brook after spending one season as an assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Mass.) where he served as the outside linebackers coach.

A four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the offensive line at Union College, Woods earned his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 2004.

He resides in Ronkonkoma, with his wife and son.
