A former standout linebacker for Stony Brook, Richie Richards returns to the football program as an assistant coach for the 2009 season. His primary responsibility will be to work with the defensive backs.

No stranger to the Stony Brook athletics program, Richards has been a part of the Seawolves family for the past three years as a graduate assistant with the athletic facilities office.

Richards was a starter at outside linebacker for Stony Brook as a senior in 2006, finishing the season second on the team in tackles with 62. A four-year letterwinner for the Seawolves, he graduated with a BS in applied math in 2007, earning his Master's in liberal arts in 2009.

A resident of Central Islip, N.Y., he was a four-time letterwinner in football at Bayside High School in Bayside, N.Y.
