Defensive Coordinator Coach

Entering his 15th year with the Seawolves, Dave Caldiero has served as the team's defensive coordinator for the past 13 seasons. He deserves much of the credit for molding Stony Brook into one of the top defensive teams in the region. In 1996, SBU ranked 11th in the nation in total defense, allowing only 240 yards per game. Last year, the Seawolves defense bettered that performance as they ranked ninth in the country in total defense. The Seawolves featured a stingy run defense that held its opponents to 91 yards per contest, ninth best in the country.

Caldiero coached at Smithtown East High School, C.W.Post College, and Nassau Community College for a total of 12 years before coming to Stony Brook.

Caldiero, a graduate of the University of Bridgeport where he received his bachelor's degree in physical education, earned his master's degree in heal education from Adelphi University.

While at Bridgeport, Caldiero was a member of the nationally-ranked Purple Knights in his senior season. That team captured the Knute Rockne Bowl which was played indoors at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Prior to attending Bridgeport, he attended Nassau Community College, where the team was ranked as high as fifth in the nation and advanced to the Sterling Silver Bowl in Sterling, Kanas.

Caldiero is an instructor in the Department of Physical Education at Stony Brook and currently resides in Nesconset.
