Cambridge, Mass. - Stony Brook men's basketball freshman Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) has been named America East Rookie of the Week for outstanding performances in helping the Seawolves to a 2-0 start this season.

Warney, who is Stony Brook's first Rookie of the Week since January 2009, averaged 12 points and seven rebounds while shooting 78% from the floor in wins over Marist and Mount Ida.

The 6-8, 255-pound freshman became the first Stony Brook player ever to attempt at least eight field goals and make them all. He went 8-for-8 from the floor as part of a 16-point, nine-rebound performance against Mount Ida.

Warney and the Seawolves head to Rider Tuesday for a 6 a.m. game as part of the College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on ESPN.
