Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Anthony Jackson (Columbus, Ohio) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team has parlayed back-to-back career high scoring nights into America East Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. Jackson averaged a team-best 23 points while leading the #Seawolves to a pair of opening-weekend victories.
Jackson is Stony Brook's 13th America East Player of the Week selection in program history. It's the first-ever for the senior point guard, who opened the season with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting against Marist last Friday, a 71-55 #Seawolves victory. He followed that performance with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting in an 81-65 win over Haverford on Sunday.
It was the first time in his career that Jackson has posted back-to-back 20 point efforts. Over the two games, he also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals.
Jackson is in his second season as the starting point guard for Stony Brook and is only 292 points away from scoring 1,000 for his career. He also is in the program's Div. I top 10 in three-pointers made with 117.
Jackson and the #Seawolves are 2-0 to start the 2013-14 season and will host defending CAA regular season champion Northeastern Wednesday night at Pritchard Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (631) 632-WOLF, and the game can be seen live on AmericaEast.TV and heard on the air at Champions Radio 96.9 & 107.1 FM.
