Countdown to #Seawolves Tip-Off: Facing talented A-10 teams

Oct. 25, 2013 is counting down the days until #Seawolves Tip-Off on Nov. 8 when both the men's & women's basketball teams are hosting their home openers. Visit every day for new content.

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook has never shied away from playing big time teams from big time conferences. Look back at the past schedules, and the teams that show up include Indiana, Connecticut, Boston College, Maryland, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State and more.

This year will be no different, but the names are slightly different. Stony Brook has a pair of teams on the docket that have not always been syonymous with big time conferences or big time basketball. But VCU and La Salle have made a name for themselves over the last few seasons. VCU went to the Final Four in 2011 and parlayed it into an invite to the Atlantic 10 Conference. La Salle reached the Sweet 16 in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, the furthest the program has gone since 1955.

VCU has been picked to win the Atlantic 10, and La Salle has been picked to finish third, according to the league's preseason poll.

Stony Brook and La Salle will tangle on one of the biggest stages in college basketball, Madison Square Garden, as part of the MSG Holiday Festival on Dec. 7. Ticket information on the event will be forthcoming.

Below is some information on the opponents as the #Seawolves look to make waves with their A-10 opponents.
