Cambridge, Mass. - Coming off a complete game shutout at Hartford, freshman Ryley MacEachern (Saugus, Mass.) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
MacEachern earns his first-ever weekly honor, and he is the third different #Seawolves freshman to be named Rookie of the Week, joining Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.).
The 6-2 freshman starter got the ball in Stony Brook's doubleheader nightcap at Hartford last Saturday and delivered a dominating performance in a 1-0 #Seawolves victory. Over seven innings, he scattered just three hits and walked none while striking out seven batters. Six of his seven punchouts were swinging, and he allowed just one runner to reach second base the entire game, and that came with the Hawks down to their final out.
MacEachern retired 14 of the first 15 batters he faced in the game.
The freshman is 2-1 this season with a 3.76 ERA. He has 16 strikeouts in 26-1/3 innings, and opponents are hitting .266 against him.
MacEachern and the #Seawolves host Marist and Sacred Heart in mid-week games this week and will play in the first-ever Dodd Stadium College Baseball Classic versus Connecticut and Bryant this weekend in Norwich, Conn.
