Box Score

Fairfield, Conn. - Junior Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) went 4-for-4 and sophomore Kevin Courtney's (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) three-run double in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie as the Stony Brook baseball team defeated the Fairfield Stags, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon. The Seawolves have won seven straight and 17 of their last 19.

Jankowski also drove in a run and is hitting .591 (13-for-22) during the seven-game winning streak. Junior Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) added three hits and junior Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The teams entered the fifth tied 2-2 and Fairfield reliever John Gallagher retired the first two Seawolves of the inning. But freshman Steven Goldstein (East Meadow, N.Y.) reached on an infield single and Nivins then doubled.

Freshman Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) walked to load the bases and Courtney followed with a double down the right field line that brought all three runners home and gave SBU a 5-2 lead.

Fairfield scored a run in sixth and seventh to get within one before the Seawolves added an insurance run in the eighth on a Tissenbaum RBI single.

Junior G.C. Yerry came on in relief to start the eighth and retired the side in order. Fairfield put runners on first and second with two outs in the ninth but Yerry struck out Dean Sadik to end the game.

Freshman Matt Gallup (Albany, N.Y.) started for the Seawolves and allowed just an unearned run in 3.0 innings of work.

The Seawolves return to conference play this weekend, hitting the road for a three-game series at UMBC.
