Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. - Freshman Joe Goglia and Matt Lyons combined on a one-hit shutout as the Stony Brook baseball team topped Fordham, 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Chris Cruz delivered the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning as the Seawolves improve to 5-9 on the year. The win snapped Fordham's three-game winning streak as the Rams move to 10-9.

Goglia was in trouble early, as the Rams loaded the bases in the first inning after a hit batsman, a single and a walk. The freshman was able to induce a groundout to shortstop to end the inning and strand three Fordham runners.

Locked up in a pitcher's duel, Cruz was able to break the 0-0 tie in the seventh inning as the sophomore ripped a single to right field to plate Michael Tansey and hand Stony Brook a 1-0 lead.

The Seawolves added three more runs in the eighth when Stony Brook took advantage of a Fordham error to tack on three unearned runs capped by a two-RBI single from Tansey as the Seawolves held on for the 4-0 win.

Tansey led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Cruz was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Brian Witkowski was 2-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases and a run scored.

Goglia and Lyons combined on the one-hit shutout with eight total strikeouts. Lyons (1-0) picked up the win, striking out five in 4.1 innings of hitless baseball. Goglia threw 4.2 innings of one-hit baseball with three strikeouts in his first career collegiate start.

Jake Rabinowitz threw 4.2 innings of shutout baseball for Fordham in a no decision. J.P. Mack (0-1) picked up the loss, allowing one run in 2.1 innings of work.

The Seawolves return to action this Friday when they open up a four-game set against NYIT. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
