No. 17 UNC Sweeps Doubleheader from Baseball

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Stony Brook University's baseball team rallied from an early five-run deficit but the No. 17 North Carolina Tar Heels used a six-run seventh to defeat the Seawolves, 11-6, in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels won the first game of the doubleheader, 18-4.
Sophomore William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with three RBI in the second game while sophomore Maxx Tiseenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) added three hits. Freshman Brandon McNitt (Chino Hills, Calif.) allowed just two runs in 6.1 innings of relief.
UNC (11-1) scored five in the first inning of game two highlighted by a three-run home run from Levi Michael. But the Seawolves answered with two runs in the second on an RBI double from sophomore Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) and a run-scoring single from freshman Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
SBU (2-4) got within a run in the fifth on an RBI groundout from senior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and a run-scoring double from Carmona. The Seawolves then took a 6-5 lead in the seventh as Carmona launched a two-run home to right field.
But Tom Zengel led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to tie it and Ben Bunting then reached on a single to drive McNitt from the game. The Tar Heels then loaded the bases against SBU freshman reliever Bryan Tatelman (South Windsor, Conn.).
Jacob Stallings followed with a two-run single to give UNC a 7-5 lead. Colin Maron added a two-run double before Jesse Wierzbicki capped the inning with an RBI single.
Carmona also tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief in game two. Greg Holt allowed a run in 0.2 innings of relief to pick up the win for North Carolina.
The Tar Heels took control of game one right from the start, scoring four runs in the first with the help of two Stony Brook errors. UNC added a run in the second on a Michael RBI single.
North Carolina then put the game away with seven runs in the third. Zengel drove in three runs in the inning. Johnson took the loss for the Seawolves, giving up eight runs, just three earned, in 2.0 plus innings.
SBU got in the board in the sixth on a two-run single from Tissenbaum and a run-scoring single from sophomore Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.). Chris Munnelly allowed two runs in 5.2 innings to pick up the win for the Tar Heels.
