#Seawolves' seasons rev up at Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown
Sept. 26, 2013
Franklin Park, Mass. - The Stony Brook men's and women's cross country teams enter the hearts of their respective seasons with their first major meets of 2013 at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College Friday, Sept. 27. The two teams are set to race against multiple nationally and regionally ranked teams at the meet, which is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
"This will be a great opportunity for us to see where we match up against national and regional competition at this stage of the season," head coach Andy Ronan said. "We are running the majority of our women's squad for the first time, and I am excited to see how the student-athletes handle themselves in this competitive field. Some of our top men are still out but are making progress in training. I do expect the guys that are competing to run well."
The women will line up against three of the top nine teams in the country, headlined by the No. 1 Providence and defending national champion and No. 3 Oregon. The Seawolves, who came in at No. 12 in the most recent USTFCCCA Northeast Region Poll, will also see No. 9 Cornell and No. 24 Boston College in addition to regionally prominent foes in Wisconsin (No. 6, Great Lakes), Bucknell (No. 9, Mid-Atlantic) and Yale (No. 8, Northeast).
The men's field is also highly competitive, with nationally ranked opponents in No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 9 Syracuse and No. 25 Providence set to race alongside Cornell (No. 7, Northeast), Yale (No. 8, Northeast), UMass (No. 13, Northeast) and Bucknell (No. 8, Mid-Atlantic). Stony Brook was slotted at No. 14 in the latest regional rankings.
Both squads will meet America East rivals in New Hampshire and Hartford. The Seawolves became the first program since New Hampshire in 2002 to sweep the conference championships last season, with the women winning an incredible sixth consecutive title and the men's squad capturing its first.
