Albany, N.Y. - Senior Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) finished first to lead the Stony Brook women's cross country team to an America East Championship for the fifth straight year.

Green won the 5K race in 16:51.59, nearly three seconds better than Boston University's Katie Matthews.

"Hayley ran a great tactical race and deserved to win the individual title," head coach Andy Ronan said. "The team performance was special. I asked them to run to their fitness level and they did."

Senior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) placed sixth in a time of 17:12.29. Junior Annie Keown (Auckland, New Zealand) finished eighth (17:21.52) and sophomore Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) took ninth (17:22.55).

On the men's side, sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) finished an impressive third in a time of 24:35.76. "Eric was brilliant today in his first championship race for Stony Brook," Ronan said. "He ran like a seasoned veteran."

The men's team had a solid race despite the withdrawal of senior Drew Dillingham (Riverhead, N.Y.), who suffered an injury.

Senior Gerard Harley (Setauket, N.Y.) placed 17th (25:09.91) and sophomore Daniel Denis (Bayport, N.Y.) took 28th (25:25.91) for the men, who finished fifth.
