Track & Field kicks off indoor season at Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. - Sophomore Lamar Hayes (Voorhees, N.J.) won the long jump and finished third in the 200 to lead the Stony Brook men's track & field team in its season opener at Fordham.
Hayes posted a jump of 6.97. Sophomore Terry Martin (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) took second place with a jump of 6.86. Hayes also was impressive in the 200, crossing in a time of 22.8.
The Seawolves recorded a solid showing in the 400. Freshman Vincenzo Battaglia (East Setauket, N.Y.) led four Seawolves in the top six with a time of 51.0, which would have been the best time a year ago, and only two seconds off the school record. Junior Angelo DePrimo (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior Robert Taylor (Jamaica, N.Y.) each ran a 51.4, and freshman Kenneth Troy (Lake Grove, N.Y.) 51.8/
Junior Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.) took third in the 800 (2:00.9).
The 4x400 relay captured second place with a time of 3:25.3. Sophomore Chris Hand (Melville, N.Y.) weight throw of 14.51 was good enough for fourth place.
On the women's side, freshman Tara Peck (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) took second in the 3,000 (11:01.4) and sophomore Kate Pouder (Miller Place, N.Y) fifth (11:16.1). Freshman Sara Conway (Islip, N.Y.) led the Seawolves with a second-place finish in the high jump (1.60) and a fourth-place offering in the long jump (4.97). Freshman Kayla Mazza (Hazlet, N.J.) had a long throw of 10.77 in the shot put.
