Speakman selected COSIDA Academic All-District

Stony Brook, N.Y. – After pacing the Stony Brook men’s cross country team to its historic first conference title in program history in 2012 while also excelling in the classroom, Eric Speakman has been named to the 2012-13 COSIDA Academic All-District Cross Country/Track and Field squad.
The sophomore from Napier, New Zealand broke the tape in a first-place individual finish in 25:11.43 at the America East Cross Country Championship race in 2012. He went on to finish 20th in the NCAA Northeast Regional en route to USTFCCCA all-region status for the second consecutive season.
A two-time all-conference selection, Speakman was tabbed the 2012 America East Scholar-Athlete for cross country and garnered USTFCCCA all-academic individual honors. The business management and economics double major has a 3.86 GPA and is a three-time America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.
Speakman is one of only 10 male student-athletes to garner All-District recognition in his region. To qualify for recognition, nominees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and be a sophomore both academically and athletically who has completed at least one full calendar year at his or her institution. The nominee must be either a starter or important reserve.
Speakman is eligible to receive COSIDA Academic All-America accolades.
