Burlington, Vt. - The Stony Brook men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the America East Championships Friday and Saturday at the University of Vermont.

Stony Brook sent a small group to last week's Penn Relays, and sophomore Christina Melian almost guaranteed herself a spot in the 5,000-meters at the NCAA Regional Championships. She placed third in the event in a personal-best time of 16:11.88.

Senior standout Olivia Burne, the reigning conference champion in the 1,500-meters, was fourth in the 3,000-meters in a personal-record mark of 9:18.54. Burne, who has won an individual title in the last three conference championship meets (2013 outdoor 1,500-meters, 2013 cross country and 2014 indoor 1,000-meters), tallied an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:22.98 in the 1,500-meters at the Colonial Relays in April.

Alex Kramer met an IC4A standard in the 5,000-meters (14:34.76) at the Colonial Relays, and Chris Hand posted a 53.03-meter throw in the hammer throw at the Wolfie Invite to qualify for the IC4As.
