Five first-place finishes highlight season opener for #Seawolves at Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. -The Stony Brook men's and women's track and field teams combined to finish first in five events Friday at the Fordham Quad Meet. Freshman Shi-Anne Humes shined in the first indoor meet of her career, grabbing first in the 200-meter dash in 26.2 seconds and teaming up with sophomore Megan Gallagher, freshman Megan Fielder and sophomore Daneen Small to take second in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:15.5.

"It was a typical opening meet of the season," track and field head coach Andy Ronan said. "There was a little bit of everything, just like the movie, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

Chris Hand started his junior season with a win in the weight throw (14.94 meters) and a third-place finish in the shot put (12.19 meters). The shot put proved to be a strong event for the Seawolves, as Matthew Koh and Christopher Drury took second and fourth, respectively, with tosses of 13.15 and 11.93 meters.

Terry Martin claimed top honors in the men's long jump with a 6.77-meter leap, while Megan Liu won the women's long jump and Sara Conway placed second with jumps of 5.07 meters and 4.85 meters, respectively.



Bradley Amazan, Alex Lopresti, Matt Granata and Ryan Clarke beat out Fairleigh Dickinson by more than three seconds for first-place in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 8:11.2.

Small clocked in at 7.8 ticks for second-place in the women's 60-meter dash, while Robert Taylor was second in the men's 200 in 23.6 seconds.

Crystal Yeates logged a time of 1:01.8 and secured fifth in the 400-meter dash. 

The Seawolves return to action Jan. 10 at the Gotham Cup at Armory Track.
