Jacksonville, Fla. - By virtue of her fifth-place finish in heat one of the 1,500, senior Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) of the Stony Brook women's track & field team is heading back to the NCAA Championships.

The top five in each of the two heats plus the next best two times qualified for the Championships to be held at Drake University in Iowa from June 6-9.

Van Dalen, the NCAA indoor champion in the mile, completed the race in 4:17.03. She was in third place after 700 meters and continued no worse than fifth the rest of the race.

The 1,500 semifinal is slated for 6:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 7.

Sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) took 10th in his 1,500 heat (3:50.38) in his first appearance in the NCAA regional.
