Greensboro, N.C. - Just hours after being honored for her work on the track and in the classroom with an America East All-Academic nod, junior Olivia Burne inched closer to a trip to the NCAA Championships. She advanced in her heat in the women's 1500-meter and will compete in the quarterfinal race Saturday.
Burne, who won the conference crown in the women's 1500 earlier this month, finished fifth in the first heat in 4:27.23.
The top five from each of the four heats plus the next best four times moved on to the quarterfinals. Burne can qualify for the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Oregon by finishing in the top five of her heat Saturday or by tallying one of the next best two times.
This is the third consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals for the distance runner from Palmerston North, New Zealand. Burne clocked in at 4:33.25 and took 11th in her heat last year.
