Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore Christina Melian of the Stony Brook women's track and field team finished third in the 5,000-meters in a personal-record time of 16:11.88, while senior Olivia Burne placed fourth in the 3,000-meters in a career-best 9:18.54 Thursday night at the Penn Relays. Both times were ECAC qualifiers.

"We had two outstanding performances from the women," head coach Andy Ronan said. "In particular, Christina's run was outstanding. Olivia competed outside her normal event the 1,500-meters and did very well."

Melian's mark almost guarantees her a spot in the NCAA Regional Championships May 30-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Junior Daniel Denis had a solid run in the 5,000-meters, taking 24th in 14:49.97.

The Seawolves will compete in the men's distance medley relay Friday.
