Boston, Mass. - Stony Brook's men's and women's track & field teams competed in the ECAC/IC4A Championships Saturday and Sunday. Sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) and senior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) each recorded a top-five finish.

Speakman ran a season-best 8:08.33 in the 3000, good enough for third place. Barry also ran a season-best, finishing ninth in 9:50.28.

Freshman Terry Martin (Bloomingburg, N.Y.), sophomore Robert Taylor (Jamaica, N.Y.), freshman Lamar Hayes (Voorhees, N.J.) and sophomore Matt Granata (Levittown, N.Y.) combined to set a school record 3:16.40 in the 4x400.

The men's 4x800, consisting of sophomore James Snak (Smithtown, N.Y.), Forbes, junior Michael Lopizzo (Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.) ran a season-best 7:44.03.

Senior Shamell Forbes (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) finished 20th in the 1000 (2:33.20) and sophomore Daniel Denis (Bayport, N.Y.) took 30th in the mile (4:25.44).

Senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) finished 15th in the mile (5:01.21). The women's 4,000 distance medley relay placed seventh.

Sophomore Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) finished eighth in the mile (4:42.21), a personal best, at the Columbia Last Chance Meet.

Senior Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) will represent Stony Brook at the NCAA Championships at Boise State on Friday and Saturday.
