Boston, Mass. - Stony Brook's track & field teams competed at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. The race was the last one in preparation for next week's America East Championships.

Senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) ran an ECAC qualifying time of 2:55.52 in the 1000m Friday evening. In the 400m, senior LaQuashia Hall (New York, N.Y.) finished in 58.27, and sophomore Katie Manzi (Swan Lake, N.J.) ran 27.66 in the 200m to finish off the evening.

On Saturday, sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) won his heat of the mile in 4:04.00 setting a new school record and qualifying him for IC4As. Sophomore Daniel Denis (Bayport, N.Y.) also won his heat of the mile in 4:14.89, qualifying him for IC4As for the first time as an individual.

Also competing were sophomore Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.), who ran a PR of 1:57.48 in the 800 and sophomore Matt Granata (Levittown, N.Y.) in the 400m, who finishing in a time of 51.18.

Stony Brook will return to Boston University for the America East Championship.
