New York, N.Y. - The Millrose Games' inaugural Wanamaker Women's Metric Mile featured World and Olympic Champions, and Stony Brook University's own Lucy Van Dalen. And Van Dalen didn't disappoint. The senior from Wanganui, New Zealand ran a 4:11.78, finishing seventh.

Van Dalen, who's run the fastest indoor 1,000 and mile this season among all college runners, was the only college runner in the field.

"I'm real happy with the way I ran tonight," Van Dalen said. "It was my goal to continue to get better as the NCAA Championships are coming.

Van Dalen finished four seconds behind the winner, Jenny Simpson, the American world champion.

The metric mile is equivalent to the 1,500.

Van Dalen broke the school record by more than 24 seconds.

"For Lucy to have this good of a race against competitors who've won olympic medals is great," coach Andy Ronansaid. "But she's continuing to work towards the goal of an NCAA title."

Earlier in the meet, the men's 4x400, consisting of freshman Terry Martin (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) sophomore Robert Taylor (Jamaica, N.Y.), sophomore Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.) and freshman Frank Gravano (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) took fifth in a time of 3:22.15.
