#Seawolves wrap up first full month of competition at Metropolitan Championships

New York – The Stony Brook men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded January by racking up 12 top-eight finishes at the Metropolitan Championships held at Armory Track. Junior Chris Hand hit the IC4A standard in the weight throw for the second consecutive week, placing fourth in the event on a 17.21-meter toss.

Senior Anthony Fratto tallied a 14.22-meter throw and finished eighth in the weight throw.

Junior Terry Martin qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles by posting a time of 8.59 seconds in the preliminaries. He bettered that time, clocking in at 8.52 and securing fourth, in the finals.

Sophomore Bradley Amazan placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:55.92, while classmate Alex Lopresti came in sixth in 1:56.31.

In the mile, sophomores Tyler Keys and Gabriel Vazquez were fourth and eighth, respectively, in personal-record times of 4:22.69 and 4:25.21.

Lopresti, Amazan, Keys and senior Matt Granata teamed up to place sixth in 10:39.37 in the distance medley relay.

On the women’s side, freshman Elizabeth Caldwell finished fourth in the mile in 5:11.92.

Senior Robin Lynn logged a season-best time of 3:01.19 in a fifth-place finish in the 1,000-meter run.

Freshman Megan Cooney was sixth in the 3,000 in 10:43.42, while classmate Orna Murray placed seventh in her debut in the event in 10:50.13.  

The men finished ninth overall, and the women finished 13th. 

Stony Brook returns to action at the Giegengack Invitational Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.
