ORONO, Maine — The Stony Brook baseball team cut a seven-run deficit to one but would not be able to plate the tying mark in a 10-9 defeat at Maine in the first of three up north.
After Maine put up five in the bottom of the fourth, Stony Brook rattled off six unanswered to bring the deficit to one and had runners in scoring position in the seventh and ninth innings.
Stanton Leuthner's two-run infield single and
Shane Paradine's bases loaded-walk did half the work, bringing the margin to 10-6 after five.
Evan Fox would cut the lead in half from four to two with a two-run home run to left and Paradine scampered home on a passed ball to cut the Maine lead to 10-9 but that would be it for the scoring.
The Seawolves had an early 3-1 advantage thanks to Leuthner's two-run single in the second before the hosts went on their run.
