STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook softball program and head coach
Megan T. Bryant have announced the addition of
Benet Higgs as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2017-18 academic season. Higgs previously spent four years as an assistant coach at Bradley University, where she served as the program's hitting coach.

She brings excellent experience, knowledge of the game and recruiting to our program. Benet's work ethic, passion for coaching and competitive spirit will fit well with the core values of our program. She is committed to the student-athlete experience and the success of our players personally, academically and athletically."
Higgs comes to Stony Brook with seven years of coaching experience at the Division I level. While at Bradley, she was responsible for daily instruction, long and short-term vision and implementation of the outfield, infield, team defense, base running, hitting, slapping and catching. Higgs also served as the program's recruiting coordinator.
Prior to joining the Bradley staff in August of 2013, she spent two years at Army. During that span, the Black Knights went 72-47 (.605), tallied back-to-back 35-win seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament during the 2013 season. In 2011, Higgs served as an assistant coach at South Dakota State. The Antioch, Calif. native graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 2009, then spent the 2010 season as a Student Assistant for the Ladyjacks.
As a student-athlete, Higgs earned honorable mention All-Southland Conference honors as a sophomore at Stephen F. Austin. She hit leadoff and played center field for the Ladyjacks, leading the squad in runs (27) and stolen bases (19). During her junior season, Higgs hit .317 to help lead the Ladyjacks to the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. She started in 155 games during her collegiate career.
Higgs earned bachelor's degrees in both business economics and operations management at Stephen F. Austin.
