Kristen Ribbons joined the sports medicine staff in August 2010 as an assistant athletic trainer. Prior to arriving at Stony Brook, Ribbons was a graduate assistant at the University of Florida for two years while completing her master's degree in Applied Physiology & Kinesiology with a residency in teaching. At Florida, Ribbons was responsible for providing athletic training services to the women's tennis team as well as assisting with women's basketball.

Ribbons received her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of New England in 2008. While at UNE, Ribbon's athletic training experience included local high schools, UNE's softball and men's ice hockey teams, and local orthopedic physician offices.

Ribbons is a native of Clinton, Maine and has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2006. She became a Board of Certification certified athletic trainer in 2008 and became a New York State certified athletic trainer in 2010.

Ribbons is Stony Brook's athletic trainer for women's basketball and softball. She is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the athletic training room, including designing and implementing rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes. In addition, Ribbons is an Approved Clinical Instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program.
