Todd Phelps joined the Stony Brook University Athletics Department staff in September of 2008 as Assistant AD for Facility Operations & Events. Phelps was promoted to Associate AD for Facility Operations & Events in July 2010. In his role, he is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, construction and renovations of Stony Brooks' athletic facilities, including the Indoor Sports Complex and Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Phelps is also charged with overseeing the events management team that is responsible for the coordination and implementation of both athletic and special events for the department.In addition he is responsible for varsity sport program oversight of baseball while also overseeing the functional area of the equipment room.
Phelps came to Stony Brook after six and a half years working on the athletics staff at Brown University. He started there in March 2002 as Coordinator of Athletic Facilities and Event Operations and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director - Operations in August, 2006. His responsibilities included oversight of many areas, including management of all home intercollegiate contests, scheduling for intercollegiate programs, outside rental groups, summer camps and clinics, and the indoor tennis and squash facility. Moreover, he assisted in the completion of the following projects: A $1.1 million field turf multi-purpose field, $3 million field turf practice football field/multi-purpose field, $3.8 million aquatics training bubble and $1 million renovation to the basketball/volleyball facility.
Also in his time at Brown, Phelps served on the Ivy League Sportsmanship/Event Management Committee and Campus Life's Sub Committee on Athletics and Physical Education. In addition, Phelps was also the program administrator for women's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, and softball.
Prior to Brown, Phelps spent a year at Yale University as Facilities and Operations Assistant. Prior to Yale, he spent six years as an assistant men's basketball coach at Middlebury College in Vermont. He also served as Coordinator of Facilities and Operations during three of his years at Middlebury.
Phelps graduated from Ithaca College in New York in 1995 with a degree in physical education. While at Ithaca, he spent three years as a student-assistant coach for the men's basketball program.
