#Seawolves Weekly Wrap - Oct. 14-20

Oct. 21, 2013

#Seawolves Fans,

We are one week closer to the beginning of fall championships, which will commence next Thursday with the America East Women's Soccer quarterfinals. Football was off last weekend, but the team is back this week with a critical home game against New Hampshire. Both teams are 3-3, and Saturday's winner will remain in the hunt for a conference championship and FCS Playoffs berth. For tickets, call (631) 632-4513 or click here.

Women's soccer clinches playoff spot
On the soccer pitch, the #Seawolves went 1-1-0 last week with a home overtime loss to UMBC followed by a strong 2-0 win at Binghamton. Sunday's victory clinched Stony Brook a spot in the America East Championship, assuring the team will have a chance to defend its tournament crown. Stony Brook can finish anywhere from first to sixth, but winning its final two matches will guarantee the team at least a share of the regular season championship. The team's final home match of the regular season takes place Thursday vs. New Hampshire.

Volleyball on a roll, protects home court
The #Seawolves have played themselves into a four-way tie for first place in America East after beating Providence and Hartford in four sets each this past weekend. The team remains undefeated at Pritchard Gymnasium, which received a boost from the Spirit of Stony Brook pep band and its performances at both matches. Stony Brook sits at 5-2 in the conference halfway through the schedule and will host UMBC Friday night.

Cross Country competes
The #Seawolves were back out on the course last weekend, participating in meets at Wisconsin and Princeton. The men were at Princeton, dueling off with four nationally ranked teams. The women impressed at Wisconsin while competing with three nationally ranked opponents. Read the results here. The programs are just two weeks out from defending their America East Championship titles.
Men's soccer garners one point last week
The #Seawolves were only able to come up with one out of a possible six points in two conference matches last week, drawing Binghamton 2-2 before losing at UMass Lowell 3-2. The positives were that the team continues to create strong offensive chances, showing they are capable of busting out at any time. The team sits in a three-way tie for fifth place in America East, halfway through the conference schedule. The team plays Lehigh Tuesday before hosting Hartford Sunday.
Maysonet to the Jets
Former #Seawolves football star Miguel Maysonet is continuing to get a chance in the NFL. He was signed to the Jets practice squad last week, his fifth NFL team since April. Newsday's Kimberley Martin recounts how Maysonet was on his way to workout for the Cincinnati Bengals when he got the call
