Stony Brook, N.Y. - Rick Guarino, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in fundraising and sales, has been named the Executive Director of the Stony Brook Athletics Fund, Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced Thursday.

"Fundraising is vital for the Department of Athletics, and we strive to have outstanding personnel in place to develop donor relations and execute our revenue generation initiatives. Rick has had proven success in fundraising for Stony Brook University, and we expect he will flourish in this new role."
The Stony Brook Athletics Fund is a fundraising initiative created in concert with the impending completion of Stony Brook Arena, Long Island's new entertainment and athletic destination and the new home to Stony Brook men's & women's basketball, for the advancement of Stony Brook University's athletics program. Guarino will be responsible for managing Stony Brook's comprehensive annual giving plan that will generate revenue to support Stony Brook's 20 intercollegiate sports programs through donor acquisition, gift renewals, upgrading donor levels and overseeing event planning and social media.
Guarino comes to the Department of Athletics after 11 successful years as Stony Brook University's Director of Annual Giving. On the university advancement side, Guarino managed centralized university annual fundraising campaigns that were targeted to alumni, parents, students, hospital patients, faculty and staff. He also oversaw all telefund, direct mail, e-solicitation and social media strategies.
Among Guarino's accomplishments were developing the President's Circle, a $1,000+ annual giving society, increasing telefund pledges by 50 percent and implementing a faculty/staff campaign that generated over 1,200 participants and over $900,000.
In total, under Guarino's oversight, annual fund dollars increased from $400,000 to $1.5 million.
Prior to joining Stony Brook, Guarino was the Senior Vice President for Acquisitions Operations at MRI International and the Vice President for Operations, Sales and Marketing at Atwood Richards International from 1997-2001.
Guarino also spent 12 years at Pioneers Partners, Inc., where he worked his way from Account Executive to Vice President.
Guarino earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University and his MBA from Dowling College.
