2012-13 Stony Brook Winter/Spring Honor Roll
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The academic accolades continue to roll in for the Stony Brook University athletics department. A total of 161 Seawolves student-athletes from winter and spring sports were placed on the America East Honor Roll for producing a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher during his/her season of competition. Overall, when factoring in the 51 student-athletes previously named to the fall honor roll, Stony Brook placed 212 athletes on the America East Honor Roll in 2012-13.
In addition, 61 of Stony Brook's 161 winter/spring honor roll honorees were named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll for boasting a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Combined with the 21 fall Commissioner's Honor Roll honorees, Stony Brook had 82 of 212 student-athletes earn Commissioner's Honor Roll status during 2012-13.
The women's track & field team had the most Honor Roll members of any Stony Brook sport with 25 student-athletes. Of the 25, 14 of them were Commissioner's Honor Roll recipients for their 3.5 GPA or higher, also the most of any Seawolves program this year. The men's lacrosse team had the second-most Honor Roll recipients with 19.
By percentages, the men's tennis team placed 88.9 percent of its entire roster on the honor roll (8-of-9) and women's basketball had 81.3 percent of its entire roster produce a 3.0 GPA or better (13-of-16).
Stony Brook annually earns numerous America East accolades for its work in the classroom. In 2012-13, 16 Seawolves were placed on America East All-Academic teams, which honor the best in each sport based on performance on the field and in the classroom. Olivia Burne of the women's cross country team and Eric Speakman of the men's cross country team were both recognized as America East Scholar-Athletes distinguishing themselves as the top scholar-athlete in their respective sports.
