Cambridge, Mass. - Stony Brook University placed a school-record 70 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll for the Fall 2013 season, the conference announced Thursday. Per the America East, student-athletes must achieve a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher in order to be eligible for America East Honor Roll distinction.
Of the 70 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll, 35 were also named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which requires student-athletes to achieve a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
The women's soccer team had the most Honor Roll members of any Stony Brook fall sport with 16 student-athletes. Of those 16, five of the student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The men’s soccer team was second with 15 student-athletes on the Honor Roll. The men's & women's cross country teams each had 14 student-athletes, with the men's team placing a school-high nine of the 14 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The volleyball team had 11 honor roll student-athletes, six of whom were on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Stony Brook annually excels in the classroom and earns numerous recognitions for it. During the 2012-13 academic year, 212 student-athletes made it on the America East Honor Roll and 82 of them were on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Three of Stony Brook's student-athletes in 2012-13 were named America East Scholar Athletes.
