Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University placed 51 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll for the Fall 2012 season, the conference announced Friday. Per the America East, student-athletes must achieve a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher in order to be eligible for America East Honor Roll distinction.
Of the 51 student-athletes on the America East Honor Roll, 21 were also named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which requires student-athletes to achieve a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
The women's soccer team had the most Honor Roll members of any Stony Brook fall sport with 16 student-athletes. Of those 16, six of the student-athletes were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The men’s soccer team was second with 14 student-athletes on the Honor Roll, and the women's cross country team had six of its nine Honor Roll student-athletes also appear on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Stony Brook annually excels in the classroom and earns numerous recognitions for it. During the 2011-12 academic year, 190 student-athletes made it on the America East Honor Roll and 72 of them were on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Six of Stony Brook's student-athletes in 2011-12 were named America East Scholar Athletes, two of which, Baseball's Tyler Johnson and Women's Track & Field's Lucy van Dalen, were named the America East Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the entire conference.
